Four generations of Carranos. A legacy of hard work, resilience and the belief that honor in business is the value that matters most.
After returning from the war, Jimmy Carrano—named Vincent, but known as Jimmy—and his brother started hauling for Seamless Rubber Company. They built their trucking venture through long hours and hands-on work. When Jimmy died in his sleep in 1958, his 16-year-old son Frank left school, got behind the wheel and kept the trucks rolling.
In 1900, Vin’s great-great-grandfather arrived at Ellis Island from Italy, listed as a tailor and willing to do whatever work would support his family. Generations became stonemasons, truck drivers and warehousemen. Pride in your work meant showing up, keeping your word and never cutting corners.
Vin grew up sweeping floors and painting docks at the family trucking business in New Haven. After leaving to sell typewriters and fax machines from a Chevy Cavalier, he returned to run the warehousing business. Years of work ended in empty warehouses and unpaid bills. One night, under a truck at 3 a.m. pounding frozen brakes, he knew something had to change.
Vin shut down the trucks and warehouses to focus on what was working: freight brokerage. Fenichey takes its name from fenice, the Italian word for phoenix—a symbol of rebirth and resilience. His first hire, Angela, became family in every sense. Today his sons James and Steve carry the business forward.
